France, 1914. The destinies of four women intersect: Marguerite, a mysterious Parisian prostitute; Caroline, propelled to the head of the family factory; Agnes, Mother Superior of a requisitioned convent; and Suzanne, a feminist nurse.

	Agnès finds her convent transformed into a war hospital. Marguerite seeks work at the local brothel. Suzanne flees to Switzerland with Jeanne’s help.

	Caroline’s brother-in-law sabotages her plans for the factory. Agnès develops a soft spot for a new patient. Marcel uncovers why Marguerite left Paris.
